What is topiary?
Topiary is cutting and shaping hedges, bushes and shrubs in an artistic way or to create hedges and screens at the end of a garden. It can done to make a garden look better, to create art and even to create garden mazes. It can be done in your garden, or in a public space.
Topiary has been performed for hundreds of years, since the Romans. It's one of the earliest forms of art but requires lots of patience and time.
We perform Topiary for all kinds of clients, from small front lawns to large, sprawling public displays.
How do we perform topiary?
First we talk with you about which shape you'd like for your plant. Next, if you already have a suitable plant for it or need a new one.
We'll then start clipping into the desired shape, cutting into the foliage and greenery. We'll also cut certain parts of the wood and branches so it'll grow into the shape you'd like.
Next we'll apply a dressing and mulch to the plant so that it grows strong, quickly and healthily. We'll then come back one or twice a year, depending on the species of the plant.
It may take a couple of years to many to get to your desired shape and size. We'll discuss this with you during our first meeting though.
